AVPRO EDGE

MXNet 1G Evolution II Downmixing Encoder – AVProEdge AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2

Product code: AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2

Detailed Description

Description

Following in the footsteps of AVPro Edge’s AC-MXNET-1G-EV2 and continuing the evolutionary path of the MXNet Platform, the AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 features an onboard proprietary audio decoder module designed to extract two-channel balanced analog audio from high-bitrate, multi-channel audio codecs including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X IMAX Enhanced, enabling seamless integration with multi-zone stereo distribution systems. Downmixed signals are extracted and output in analog stereo via a balanced Phoenix-type terminal on the encoder chassis.

The AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 functions as an Evolution II Encoding/Transmitting device, incorporating a newly designed AVPro Edge application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) that introduces an advanced software-based video encoding/decoding engine into the IC for superior video processing. Enhancements to the IC include native support for 4K/60fps 4:4:4 signals (RGB and YCbCr @10- and 12-bit). All first-generation MXNet encoder features are fully retained for use with the AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2.

As part of the AVPro Edge AV-over-IP product family, the AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 serves as the gateway where signals enter the MXNet Ecosystem. It connects via category cable (AVPro Edge strongly recommends CAT-6a infrastructure for all MXNet deployments, though Cat-5e will also reliably transport MXNet 1G data signals) or fiber optic cabling to an MXNet switch or any compatible, multicast-capable managed L3 network switch.

A connected HDMI source has its audio and video signals encoded into a multicast data format for routing to any AC-MXNET-1D-EV2 system endpoint connected to the same MXNet switch. Encoded HDMI source signals up to native 4K/60fps 4:4:4 with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG are transmitted to EVO II downstream AC-MXNET-1G-DV2 decoders, with RS-232 serial pass-through, IR control, and USB signals also transportable within the encoded data packets.

Encoding is performed using an optimized JPEG 2000 codec that processes data at flexible, managed rates to minimize bitrate errors (200Mbps for 1080p content, 300Mbps for 4K/30fps content, peaking at 850Mbps for 4K/60fps content). Frame-syncing Genlock is supported, offering near-zero, visually imperceptible latency. The AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 operates quietly and coolly thanks to a fanless design with chip-top heatsinking for efficient heat dissipation, while limiting power consumption to typically 7 watts or less for enhanced stability and device longevity.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 and AC-MXNET-1G-DV2 devices can coexist alongside first-generation MXNet encoders and decoders in existing installations or upcoming deployments; however, they must be used exclusively in EVO II transmitter-to-EVO II decoder pairings.

Tab Title

Downmixing – Supports the transmission of high-bitrate multi-channel audio codecs through an MXNet system while simultaneously allowing the extraction and splitting of digital and analog audio signals. Standard Dolby Audio and DTS-HD formats up to 7.1 can be downmixed and output as balanced analog stereo audio. Dolby Atmos 7.1 base channels and DTS:X IMAX Enhanced soundtracks can also be decoded and downmixed into an analog stereo output for distribution to non-surround products.

JPEG 2000 – JPEG 2000 encoding implemented in MXNet differs from MPEG and other discrete cosine transform-based codecs by optimizing compression efficiency for bandwidth-constrained applications. Based on a wavelet transform algorithm, JPEG 2000 delivers lossless or lossy compression alongside parseable code streams. Genlock is supported, synchronizing video sources frame-by-frame across decoders in a video wall to achieve a synchronized, tear-free visual experience. JPEG 2000 is trusted by Digital Cinema Initiatives for theatrical content, television networks for HD broadcasting, and DICOM® for mission-critical medical imaging applications.

Native 4K/60fps Support – First-generation MXNet Encoders and Decoders lacked native or dynamic metadata support for 4K/60fps 4:4:4 RGB or YCbCr at 10- and 12-bit. When non-lossless compression is applied, the advanced encoding/decoding engine on the new ASIC developed for EVO II Encoders and Decoders utilizes ultra-light, limited compression to deliver an artifact-free image upon decoding, including Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content.

Improved Preview Thumbnails – First-generation MXNet supported static thumbnails at 960x540 pixel resolution, refreshing every 10 seconds. EVO II supports third-party media sub-streaming via an HTTP address at an enhanced pixel resolution of 1024x576.

Data Status Window – A forward-facing, built-in mini OLED screen displays critical information for device setup, system troubleshooting, and operational status. You can customize the name of an EVO II AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 using up to twelve character slots for easy identification or to match system requirements. IP and MAC addresses are also displayed.

Control Signal Routing – IR and RS-232 control signal routes mapped via MXNet Mentor software direct commands to downstream EVO II decoders through the AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2. Any EVO II decoder connected to the MXNet system switch can receive these routed signals. I-PASS and IR-EYE ports support IR signal passthrough from third-party control systems to endpoint-related devices.

USB and KVM Support – A USB 2.0 Type-B female Host connection is featured on every AC-MXNET-AVDM-1G-EV2. MXNet Mentor software enables straightforward routing configuration for bi-directional USB signals from a designated Host Encoder to a downstream decoder connected to a USB peripheral.

External Device Light Control – LED illumination on the AC-MXNET-1G-AVDM-EV2 can be managed via MXNet Mentor. Status lights, including network link LEDs and the OLED Data Window, can be optionally disabled to eliminate distractions and ensure discreet installation. Device lights can also be continuously "flashed" for high visibility during troubleshooting.

Netgear Support – MXNet engineers collaborated closely with Netgear to ensure their switches integrate seamlessly with our line of encoders and decoders. To simplify installation, Netgear has developed an exclusive "AVPro Edge Profile." Once loaded, your switch will operate flawlessly with AVPro Edge encoders and decoders.
