Laser projector vs LED display: which should you choose for meeting rooms and auditoriums?

When designing an auditorium or large meeting room, one of the first questions is whether to choose a laser projector or LED display. Both are modern display technologies, but suited to different applications.

Laser projector: flexible, lower initial cost

New-generation laser projectors deliver high brightness (many models exceed 3,000-5,000 lumen), long-lasting color stability, and eliminate the need for periodic lamp replacement like traditional projectors. The biggest advantage is a significantly lower initial investment compared to LED for the same screen size, and the ability to easily adjust display size simply by changing throw distance/zoom.

LED display: superior brightness, independent of ambient light

LED displays are unaffected by ambient lighting — even in rooms with large windows or strong lighting, images remain sharp without needing to turn off lights as with projectors. LED also delivers better contrast and color depth, ideal for spaces requiring continuous display for many hours (lobbies, control centers).

So which should you choose?

Laser projectors suit auditoriums where lighting can be controlled (curtains, lights that can be dimmed during presentation), moderate budgets, or where very large screens are needed and the corresponding LED cost would be prohibitive. LED displays suit spaces with strong uncontrollable lighting, continuous all-day display requirements, or high aesthetic demands (lobbies, showrooms).

AZ Technologies provides consulting based on actual site surveys of each space — lighting, usage frequency, budget — to recommend the most suitable display solution, rather than imposing one technology for every application.
